Lady Micheline Connery donates $1m in a bid to find a cure for dementia
Sean Connery's widow has given $1million to help find a cure for dementia. Lady Micheline Connery, 92, donated after seeing the condition's severe impact on her husband in his final two years. The couple were married for 45 years until Sir Sean's passing in 2020, aged 90.
"Dementia is a devastating disease that not only takes the spirit from the sufferer but poisons the ecosystem of the family as they experience a loved one slowly fade away," she said.
"Having seen the dreadful impact dementia had on Sean, particularly towards the end of his life, our family feels privileged to support the vital research being undertaken.
"We hope this gift will contribute to treatments to cure and prevent dementia, and in the meantime support those suffering from or caring for a person living with dementia".
The Moroccan-French painter, who met Sir Sean at a golf tournament in 1970 and wed five years later, handed the sum to Race Against Dementia.
Sir Sean's close friend, former racing driver Sir Jackie Stewart, launched the global charity after his wife Helen was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Sir Sean passed in his sleep with his wife by his side at their home in the Bahamas.
