For Bond Trans Only
In news that'll no doubt go down like a cup of cold sick among the Bond community outside of the Gen Z cohort, Yasmin Finney wants to become the first-ever openly transgender Bond girl.
"I feel so honoured to be seen as a queer person in general, and to be here on the stage is a step forward to opening doors for other trans people in the industry."
The actor, best known for playing Elle Argent in the Netflix series Heartstopper, revealed she's a Bond fan.
"I love James Bond films," she declared. "Every film I've seen, I've always thought, 'I'd love to be that cool, sexy Bond girl'. It has never been done before, so it would be amazing to do it".
The Manchester-born actor cited Caroline Cossey as an inspiration — a trans model who was an extra in 1981's For Your Eyes Only. Yet it wasn't known that Caroline was trans until after For Your Eyes Only's release.
"Shoutout to Caroline. She's inspired me in a way to be the positive representation that James Bond never had. There are people in the industry that were transphobic, but now they aren't because of the way things are changing.
I'd rather not fight it and be a part of it. I feel so honoured to be seen as a queer person in general and to be here on the stage is a step forward to opening doors for other trans people in the industry".
You can catch Yasmin in Doctor Who next year.
