Dame Shirley coins it in
First, it was a stamp. Now, Dame Shirley Bassey's 70+ year career has been immortalised in a coin. The 86-year-old, originally from Tiger Bay, visited the maker's base in Llantrisant to strike one of the first bits of money.
The tribute features a Welsh Dragon and a silhouette of the 86-year-old, arms aloft in a familiar pose.
The coin is embossed with the names of her three James Bond theme tunes: Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker and Goldfinger.
"My collaboration with The Royal Mint is an incredibly exciting moment for me", said the Dame.
"It's thrilling to know that my silhouette, and the Welsh Dragon, will be featured on my very own coin, and to be the first female included within the Music Legends collection is an absolute honour".
The coin will be released in various colours and denominations. If you've got a spare £5,305 lying about, you can bag the most valuable denomination — £200 — weighing in two ounces.
