Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have handed the James Bond franchise to Amazon MGM Studios.

Albert "Cubby" Broccoli launched the series in 1962 before his daughter and stepson gradually took over and gained complete control of 1995's GoldenEye.

The pair will now give creative control to Amazon MGM Studios, formed when Amazon bought Bond's parent studio in 2022.

Amazon will now decide which actor will play 007 next after Barbara and Michael chose Daniel Craig in 2005.

A statement said the pair will "remain co-owners of the franchise" as part of a new joint venture.

Michael, 83, said:

"With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects.

"Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future".

Broccoli, 64, added:

"My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli.

"I have had the honour of working closely with four tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry.

"With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects".

The newspaper also claimed that Broccoli had privately described Amazon as "idiots".
