Jonny Lee Miller lands Major role

Jonny Lee Miller, who rose to fame as a heroin addict in the cult-classic Trainspotting, is set to paint a very different side of the 1990s by playing Sir John Major in The Crown.

Jonny is the grandson of Bond icon Bernard Lee, who played M in the first eleven Eon-produced James Bond films between 1962 to 1979, before passing away in 1981.

Sir John was in 10 Downing Street when Trainspotting came out — both as a novel and film.

Jonny will transform into the politician — once depicted in the guise of a rubber puppet in Spitting Image — painted grey to further Major's apparent dull personality.

He'll join Tomorrow Never Dies villain Jonathan Pryce, who'll replace Casino Royale's Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.

The show's fifth and final series will be set in a difficult decade for the royals with the Windsor Castle fire, Princess Diana's death, plus explosive affairs, splits and scandals.
