You're So Tame

Carly Simon has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Sabrina Carpenter's latest album artwork. Sabrina caused a stir when she dropped a sneak peek of Man's Best Friend, due out this August.

The artwork — featuring Sabrina on her knees with a faceless man pulling her hair — has sparked a flurry of debate for obvious reasons.

Critics have called it problematic. They argue it hints at domination and could be seen as glamorising domestic abuse. Others say it's just a bold artistic choice in line with pop's long tradition of pushing boundaries.

But Carly isn't convinced by the backlash. Fifty years ago, she was pictured on her knees for the cover of Playing Possum, igniting a similar debate.

"She's not doing anything outrageous", Carly said.

"It seems tame. There have been far flashier covers than hers. One of the most startling covers I've ever seen was [The Rolling Stones'] Sticky Fingers. That was out there in terms of sexual attitude. So I don't know why she's getting such flak".

As for Sabrina, she's staying playful but firm:

"It's a visual metaphor. The music will speak for itself — and probably bark a little too".
