"I see you've moved up in the world, Harris"
Harris Dickinson has stirred rumours with charmingly evasive answers to the most persistent question he faces:
Would you play James Bond?
Let's break down what the 28-year-old Brit has said since Daniel Craig hung up his holster.
First came the classic British modesty in 2023:
"Nah, I don't think so".
Then came the more pragmatic follow-up:
"I mean, listen, man, you'd be a fool to not entertain that role".
He even took up the role of casting director, offering a surprising nominee at this year's Cannes Film Festival:
"Jonathan Bailey is your first choice, so let's go with that. That sounds like a good idea".
When grilled further on what the future of the franchise holds, Dickinson offered up the perfect cryptic teaser:
"Who knows what they're doing with Bond? I'm intrigued".
Still, he's clearly flattered, if a little bewildered, by all the attention:
"It's terribly flattering that they're having this conversation. I worry about the work I have, not other people's jobs".
And to his credit, Dickinson has nothing but praise for the man who took the role by the scruff of the neck 20 years ago:
"I think Daniel Craig was such a good Bond that I'd almost be quite frightened to try".
