Billie Eilish stirs up 'queerbaiting' controversy
Billie Eilish's appearance sees her ditch the trademark baggy clothes, which she previously revealed are a bid to stop anyone sexualising or body-shaming her. In the music video for her single, Lost Cause, the No Time To Die artist frolics with a group of girlfriends after ending a relationship.
Billie is seen hanging out in bed with the girls playing Twister, twerking, and kissing — prompting accusations of 'queerbaiting'. The singer shared behind the scenes images on Instagram, with the caption: 'i love girls'.
You may be wondering what queerbaiting is. It's is a marketing technique in entertainment where creators hint at but don't actually depict same-sex romance or other LGBTQIA+ representation.
They do so to attract ("bait") a queer or straight ally audience with the characters that appeal to them while attempting to avoid alienating anti-LGBTQIA+ consumers.
